The name is just adorable, isn’t it? Today we are talking about our yoga program for our AWEsome kids!
Yoga for kids with AWEtism has a wide range of of activities over traditional yoga. Our yoga program includes games and activities that also act as an extension of other therapies they receive.
Yoga, in general, can be a moving meditation, particularly when breath and movement are aligned. When breathing techniques are taught, the breath can be used as a method of guiding the mind/emotions and the resulting behaviors. The sympathetic nervous system switches off and the parasympathetic nervous system switches on. With continued practice, individuals may begin the practice of self-regulation on their own as part of their everyday lives. In addition to self-regulation, yoga can also provide assistance with body awareness, balance, hand-eye coordination, focus, coping strategies, language and communication, strength and flexibility, self-confidence, motor skills, social skills, awareness of the senses, and other specific goals.
